Yolanda is a 32 year old single mother of three boys who works multiple jobs and is attending law school. She was the 2014 Zonta Rose Scholarship recipient.
Yolanda was raised by her grandmother after her mother abandoned her at the local bus station when she was only 2 weeks old. She began to be sexually assaulted at 7, but told no one because her abuser threatened harm to her grandmother. She became involved in an abusive relationship at the age of 19 which lasted almost 12 years. Yolanda felt as if she would never accomplish anything and there was no way out.
Wanting a better life for herself and her three boys, she left everything and moved to the DFW area, where she began to pursue her dream of getting an education. Yolanda applied and was accepted into law school, studying constitutional and criminal law.
