Rose Scholarship |
The Rose Scholarship is an award to a non-traditional student, female head of household, and primary wage earner of the family. Applicants should be individuals pursuing post high school training or certification programs not necessarily requiring a baccalaureate degree. The recipient must use the scholarship to attend an educational institution that is accredited and normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on. This scholarship can fund a certification program such as law enforcement or fire training education at a technical/trade school or a community college.
The winner of this scholarship will automatically be submitted to the Zonta District 10 Rose Scholarship Committee for consideration. If selected, she receive an additional award. Our 2014 Rose Scholarship winner is Yolanda Gardner. She is a single mother of three active boys, who moved away from a domestic abuse situation a year ago. She has started a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence (Yolanda's Hands In Unity), works multiple jobs and is attending law school.
She received her $1,000 award at the March Zonta meeting. Congratulations, Yolanda! |
